When Conservative MP Michael Chong was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004, he was surprised to find out that he was the first-ever MP from Ontario of Chinese background.  

Chinese-Canadians have lived in Ontario for more than a century, with almost half-a-million people of Chinese descent living in the province by 2001, and almost 850,000 people as of the 2016 federal census. Before Mr. Chong, there had been only four Chinese-Canadians ever elected to the House—the first, former British Columbia Progressive Conservative MP Douglas Jung, in 1957.

The High Cost Of Food In Nunavut Should Shock All Canadians:

Wandering up and down the four or five aisles of the Northern grocery store in Arviat, my husband and I check prices and expiry dates on everything. Skim milk is about $5.00 for 2 L, a bit high, but the scrawny, whole chicken is over $20.00, almost 50% pricier than at my grocery store at home in Ontario.

I pick up a head of lettuce. It’s is $6.99.

“Doesn’t the Co-op have it on sale this week for $3.99?” My husband puts the lettuce back into the bin.

“Let’s go there when we’re done here.” On the next aisle we see a loaf of garlic bread for $7.00. We return it to the shelf. Olive oil? Out of the question. It is cheaper to buy the bottled Caesar dressing with its long list of unhealthy ingredients at just over $4.00 even if its expiry date has passed. Carrots and apples seem to be the only reasonable fresh produce if we compare their pricesto those at premium grocery stores at home, not the prices at discount variety stores like Food Basics.

As we walked back to our daughter’s house, we carried basic ingredients for the evening’s dinner. A $100-dollar bag to feed four people for one meal.

PEI Green MLAs Hannah Bell and Peter Bevan Baker at the 2018 GPO Convention

Although I’m in Ontario, I have been trying to keep up with the PEI Greens since their electoral reform referendum– the one in which PEI voted to adopt MMP.  The ruling Liberals decided not to implement the result, promising only to have a second referendum combined with the next election.  This seems to have annoyed Prince Edward Islanders so much they’ve started electing Greens.

Would you look at that… now, I’m not much for believing in Opinion Polls, but nonetheless it certainly looks as if the citizens of PEI are taking note of the fact that their PEI Greens are actually doing politics differently than the same old parties.  If this trend continues who knows, the PEI Greens may well be the next Official Opposition, or perhaps even be the first Canadian Green Party to form government.

Wow! Beginning a comment with an Ad Hominem! What an excellent way to establish you don’t have an argument.

Finally, you’ve characterized M 103 as being “Shariah-friendly” without any foundation at all.

You can believe anything you want to believe, but the fact that you believe it does not make it a fact. Your opinion is your opinion.

“Because I said so” is no more a valid argument than name calling. Should you choose to make a rebuttal, and manage to avoid any more logical fallacies or unfounded mischaracterizations, I would publish it, but I will not publish another comment as devoid of substance as this.
