TODAY!!! The Ontario Court of Appeal will be hearing this important case at 10am

Sar-El Canada is allegedly breaking Canadian law by recruiting Canadian volunteers to go to Israel and support the IDF. But the Canadian Government refuses to enforce its own law.

There was a Canadian Parliamentary Petition asking it to uphold the law they ignored.

Two concerned Canadian citizens, Rabbi David Mivasair and Palestinian artist Rehab Nazzal, filed a complaint with the Toronto Police about Sar-El Canada’s activities.

The police did nothing so they got lawyers to launch a private prosecution. Evidence on the alleged offence was presented at a hearing, and Sar-El Canada was formally charged.

No one has ever been able to get a criminal charge laid to stop illegal recruitment of Canadian volunteers for Israel’s armed forces until now.

But politics wasn’t having it. The Crown prosecution took over the case and withdrew the charge.

This is what is being appealed this morning.

It should not be this hard to get our governments to obey their own laws.

“It is a crime to recruit people in Canada to enlist or engage with a foreign army. However, the Attorney General refuses to prosecute those who allegedly recruit volunteers to assist the Israeli armed forces.”

Ontario Election 2022

A Toronto Star Opinion Piece by Martin Reg Conn desperately tries to justify the Ontario election result in “Get Over It: Doug Ford’s Victory was an example of how democracy is supposed to work.”

But is it really?

The purpose of Democracy is to give people a say in our own governance. In a Direct Democracy that would mean citizens themselves directly make laws and government policies. As in a referendum.

But ours is a Representative Democracy, which means citizens choose representatives to represent us when making laws and policies in Parliament.

This is not that.

Premier Doug Ford (416) 805-2156 “Premier Doug Ford is one…

Premier Doug Ford (416) 805-2156

“Premier Doug Ford is one of the most accessible politicians in the country,” said spokesman Simon Jefferies. “He gives his personal cellphone number out to everyone he meets and receives thousands of calls and messages on a wide range of issues.”

After she called Doug Ford’s cellphone multiple times,
the OPP told this autism advocate to quit it

So Premier Ford gives out his personal cellphone number then sends the Ontario Provincial Police to intimidate citizens who use it?

Until there is a law making it illegal for citizens — aka “the people”  — to call the Premier of Ontario at the cell number he himself gives out — the OPP has no business calling private citizens and telling them not to call.

People in the real world understand that if we give our cell number to people they might actually use it to call us.  Instead of misusing police services, perhaps the Premier ought to only give out his number to people he wants to hear from.

Hamilton woman can't afford rent, stuck in lease after province scraps basic income:

allthecanadianpolitics:

Her income doubled. She signed her first lease. She was a step closer to having her children live with her and getting her life on track.

But now that the basic income pilot project has been cancelled, Harley Worden says she’ll be back at square one.

Cancelling the Basic Income Pilot program is perhaps the most outrageous thing Mr Ford has done.  The cost in human terms is horrific.

Can you please take five minutes to help Mike Schreiner be invited to the CityNews Toronto televised provincial leaders’ debate this Monday?

If the Greens participate in the televised debates, it would significantly increase our exposure and popular vote.

Today I am very happy to belong to a political party who has a leader who inspires us.  Green Party of Ontario Leader Mike Schreiner has been doing an incredible job even without a seat in the legislature.

  • Election Finance Reform
  • Water-Taking Reform
  • Free the Beer

Between Ontario’s democratic deficit, the wrong headed energy policy, privatizing mania, the affordable housing crisis, the antidemocratic “Green Energy Act, shortsighted transit planing, a inadequate basic income program, isn’t it time we elected some Greens?
