Science fiction was not cool when I was in high school, but I…

Science fiction was not cool when I was in high school, but I grew up watching Star Trek in its original outing. I recall my older brother trying to explain to me just how big the Enterprise was to hold all those people,

I cofounded the Canadian Trekkies Association when I was in high school. At the time, there was only 1 Star Trek, and we hoped there would be a movie one day. We got ourselves listed in the Trekkie fan bible, and suddenly we had people from across Canada writing to us, wanting to join our community.

So aside from writing letters back, we decided we had to do something more. Since my best friend’s family owned a printery we decided to create our very own fanzine, cleverly called “Canektion” (from Canadian Trekkies Association).

Back in the day fanzines were created on typewriters and gestetner machines . Electric typewriters were pretty new. Pocket calculators were the leading edge of tech. There were no personal computers, almost no self publishing, no Internet (at least not open to the public) and we had no idea what we were getting into as publishers.

We created most of our own content, and invited our trekkies to contribute material, and they did. We were allowed to do it ourselves after hours, but we had never done it before, so we did have a few problems, but it still looked far more like a professional publication than anything I had ever seen.

In our first issue, we had asked our members from across Canada to share their Star Trek top ten list. And if memory serves, the number one episode on everybody’s list, “The Trouble With Tribbles” but the next best episode, the one favored by older Trekkies was undoubtedly this one, the timeless “City on the Edge of Forever.”

Stone knives and bearskins, eh?

They tell us President Trump was elected by 50.9% of the vote- a clear majority of Americans.

They don't mention the more than 87 million eligible American Voters who stayed home from the polls.

That's about 15 million more American voters who chose not to vote than voters whose votes elected the new President.

When you count *all* the Americans eligible to vote, its clear that President-elect Trump.was elected by less than 30% of the electorate.

TODAY!!! The Ontario Court of Appeal will be hearing this important case at 10am

Sar-El Canada is allegedly breaking Canadian law by recruiting Canadian volunteers to go to Israel and support the IDF. But the Canadian Government refuses to enforce its own law.

There was a Canadian Parliamentary Petition asking it to uphold the law they ignored.

Two concerned Canadian citizens, Rabbi David Mivasair and Palestinian artist Rehab Nazzal, filed a complaint with the Toronto Police about Sar-El Canada’s activities.

The police did nothing so they got lawyers to launch a private prosecution. Evidence on the alleged offence was presented at a hearing, and Sar-El Canada was formally charged.

No one has ever been able to get a criminal charge laid to stop illegal recruitment of Canadian volunteers for Israel’s armed forces until now.

But politics wasn’t having it. The Crown prosecution took over the case and withdrew the charge.

This is what is being appealed this morning.

It should not be this hard to get our governments to obey their own laws.

Over the past 76 years, Israeli Zionists have acted with such impunity, they seem to have believed themselves invincible. The October 7 attack of Hamas Freedom Fighters seems to have shaken their self image so badly, they committ genocide to collectively punish the captive Palestinian population.

Even with the & the ICC looking on, IDF soldiers brazenly record and broadcast the atrocities they commit, exposing themselves to the world.

And the world is disgusted.

If there was ever any doubt the *genocide* Zionist Israel is committing against innocent civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories was ever about anything other than acquiring Liebensraum, this will make it crystal clear.

My heart goes out to the Israeli hostages Israel has chosen to sacrifice to justify and

There are many problems with Opinion Polls. No matter how "sciencey" they seem, outcomes can be affected by a great many factors, including, but not limited to:

• how many participants

• how participants are chosen

• how the poll was conducted (telephone, online, in person focus group, self selecting online panel)

• what questions

• the way they are asked

• when they are asked

• opinion poll's intended purpose

• pollster bias

• who paid for the opinion poll.

This isn't new, it happens in every election. Are there problems with the US system?

Youbetcha. But the 2 parties that could fix them have chosen not to... in fact they've worked hard to make it worse.

Instead of offering solutions,,the NYT uses opinion polls to scare third party voters into voting or staying home.

This long running vote suppressing strategy is why more eligible American voters stayed home in 2016 than voted for Mrs Clinton or Mr Trump.

The New York Times tells us "Jill Stein, the Party nominee, is polling at about 1 percent nationally, according to New York Times polling released last week. Same with Chase Oliver, the Party candidate.

"But their presence on the ballot in just a few states could take just enough votes away from the major party candidates to tip the balance of the Electoral College and the election, in what is known as the “spoiler” effect."

Laurel L Russwurm 2024-10-14 16:44:09

"In every battleground state, there is at least one third-party or independent presidential candidate on the ballot.

"None of these candidates will come anywhere close to winning the presidency" claims the New York Times.

HOW DO THEY KNOW?

Do they have a Crystal Ball? Not exactly. It bases its guess is on opinion polls.

The NYT is worried about the "battleground states," hotly contested by third parties & Independent Presidential Candidates.
