Scarborough Tim Hortons workers banned from accepting tips after wage hike:
They’re not only eliminating tips for minimum wage workers, they’ve also stopped paying workers for their breaks.
I’m just about ready to boycott Tim Hortons over their incessant greed. Who’s with me?
Also this seems pretty ILLEGAL:
If tips are permitted, it is illegal to withhold them from workers, following changes to the Employment Standards Act introduced by the Ontario government in 2015. Employers can only withhold tips if they are collected and re-distributed later in a tip pool.
I e-mailed the parent company, Restaurant Brands International, and told them that as long as this behaviour continues and RBI does not step in to advocate for the workers, I will be boycotting not only Tim Hortons, but all RBI-affiliated properties (Burger King, Dominos, and Popeyes).
RBI sounds pretty displeased with the bad press this is getting them, so keep up the pressure!
