The vegans are at it again.
They’ve set their sights on an indigenous run restaurant in Toronto called Kukum Kitchen that serves seal meat and are demanding that they remove it from their menu. This is gross on so many levels.
This is a counter petition to their original petition. The original petition has thousands of signatures, while this one to date only has a few hundred. Also if you live in the Toronto area, please go and support this restaurant.
Beyond the good points made in this petition here are some other reasons why its good to support indigenous businesses like this and the consumption of seal meat:
-Nunavut where Inuit primarily live has the highest food insecurity and poverty rates in Canada:
A quarter of Nunavut’s population faces moderate to severe food insecurity, report says
Nunavut’s hunger problem: ‘We can’t pretend it doesn’t exist anymore’
If you take away their ability to hunt seals for food, you take away their ability to feed themselves since little grows in Northern Canada. Beyond this because of the isolation prices for common grocery store items are really expensive (like $20 to 30 for fruits, vegetables, meat, etc). This is not even going into the cultural importance of traditional hunting and eating practices.
Today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada.
