Can we please stop treating the desire for loving and genuine relationships with other people as a weakness we need to get over? It’s not wrong or bad to want people to care about you, to pay attention to you, to accept you. Having those desires is not a character flaw you need to work on, it’s a natural and very normal part of being human.

<p>Happy Storyteller Saturday!! 💕 What is your favourite trope/cliche to write and or read? Do you have any goals when it comes to writing in general? </p>

Thank you for the ask! I’m a firm believer that cliché’s are not a bad thing so I have several favourites.

On the character relationship front I’m a total sucker for both writing and reading about the good old childhood friends-to-lovers trope. You know, the ones where they know each other inside out and are just so affected by each other, but there’s also a lot of mutual uncertainty and pining. Gets me every time! All the moreso if it includes things like accidental hand-holding and almost kisses. Although it can be neat when subverted too, of course.

I’m also a big fan of the ragtag group of misfits who initially don’t seem to have much in common but over the course of the story learn to work together and become kind of like a family. The Fellowship of the Ring had a big impact on me, what can I say! And speaking of families - big, often multigenerational families with lots of complicated dynamics are another thing I like to read and write about a lot. Sibling relationships in particular I find really fascinating.

That said, eucatastrophe might actually be my favourite trope of all. The moment where everything looks hopeless but then victory is snatched from the jaws of defeat is just… *chef’s kiss*

As for goals, at the moment my aim is just to finish a novel-length story for the first time!
