I was reading Lord of the Rings in the bathtub when I got to the part Gandalf was killed in the Mines. It was devastating!

La Lecture (1901). Jean-Eugène Buland (French, 1852-1926).
The son of an engraver, Buland joined the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Alexandre Cabanel. His work began with symbolist paintings depicting ancient scenes, then quickly turned to the representation of scenes from everyday life.
