Why I’m not going back to the Sunlife Financial UptownWaterloo Jazz Festival this weekend
I am very disappointed in the Festival this year. Not because of the music, it’s as good as always.
The audience had to get through a security check before gaining admittance because we are presumed guilty. A guard stuck her nose in my husband’s water bottle, presumably to make sure he wasn’t smuggling in alcohol. I’d forgotten my own water bottle in the car, but not having it with me didn’t spare my own even worse invasion of privacy as the guard perused the contents of my bag.
A festival stops being free when the price is an invasion of privacy.
It looks like they’re trying to catch folks smuggling alcohol in. so as not to have to buy it on site, they probably don’t realize the only reason someone might choose to smuggle it in is because they can’t afford to buy it there. Possibly people will learn not to bring water bottles, but instead buy that onsite too.
Not very inviting. I’m not doing that again.
