Uninspiring Public Art
This sculpture was built outside the downtown Kitchener Courthouse decades ago, but it’s so incredibly ugly and vaguely rude that the Courthouse moved away.
Seriously, I’ve often wondered why anyone would spent masses of money on such an awful thing, but as I think about it, this isn’t the first time I’ve blogged about the thing. And everyone I’ve ever discussed it with has strong opinions on the sausage (or the bowel movement or whatever your pet name for the thing is) even if negative. Which means this piece of sculpture has inspired feelings and gotten people talking about art, so maybe it is serving a purpose.
Wally is an excellent musician.
He won’t talk to you or take your money. Like many street people, he has issues.
If you invade his space he’ll walk away.
But this is Canada. It’s getting cold outside.
The government lacks any cohesive housing policy to help address the homeless.
A patchwork of church, charity and government programs deal with it piecemeal.
Our most vulnerable citizens are marginalized and face even greater challenges when there isn’t a safe place to sleep or warm clothes to wear in the winter.
Look around your community and find out what you can do to help.
Here in Waterloo Region Homeless in Waterloo is taking part in our Second annual Food & Warmth Drive! This year, our drive will be supporting three local shelters/ community organizations in our Region.
