Hiya! Happy STS! Does music play a big role in your story? Does it soothe certain characters, or can music make them tense? Perhaps it has another role?

Happy Storyteller Saturday! Apologies for replying a day late.

That’s an interesting question - some of my characters are musical (Rhys has a nice singing voice and Oliver knows how to play the piano) but I don’t think music really plays a big role in my current WIP. Not so far anyway. I haven’t plotted it at all out yet so things might change! There is a species of dragon that ‘sings’ as a form of communication though, sort of like the way wolves howl.

Thanks for the ask!

“There is a view that love, because it begins so spontaneously, is also simple. Yet if love engages our whole being and affects our whole world, how can it be simple? The days of simple are done — if they ever existed. Love is not a pristine planet before contaminants and pollutants, before the arrival of Man. Love is a disturbance among the disturbed.”

Can we please stop treating the desire for loving and genuine relationships with other people as a weakness we need to get over? It’s not wrong or bad to want people to care about you, to pay attention to you, to accept you. Having those desires is not a character flaw you need to work on, it’s a natural and very normal part of being human.
